A group from my local 7 club meeting decided to plan a trip to the Classic Le Mans event which is run every 2 years and is a chance for the old Le Mans car to get out and pound the classic track. I decide to go along as it was an event I had so far managed to miss out on. I also managed to get Nigel, who was in the process of finishing his rebuild, to come along - which I think focussed his mind a little!
We all met up in the early hours of the 10th of July, Nigel having traveled down and slept at my place the day before. We then convoyed to Newhaven where we caught a ferry across to Dieppe.
Once in France it rained - and I mean it really rained, pretty much the whole way from Dieppe to the campsite (where I do admit it wasn't raining). The only exception was some sweltering sunshine as we got lost in the city of Rouen. I had borrowed a 1/2 hood from Jason for the trip and I used this all the way. It was very good but I think conditions were a bit too much as I got misty rain flying forward in the car onto the inside of the screen! Maybe I should have swapped to a full hood. The trouble is both the car and I would have got soaked if I had tried to do this, better to just carry on moving.
The meeting was good fun with good company and once we were there the weather was fine and mostly warm. The trip back was a good blast, heading back to the coast for a stop off before heading to the ferry.
All great fun and thanks to the guys who thought of it and organised it!
