The build was very
straightforward and below is a table of the timetable. I
thought it would be interesting to see just how long it
would take me to put the car back together again, from a
completely stripped condition. I didn't got into massive
detail, just as and when I came to a convenient point. In
fact I had a few things to do which weren't part of the
original build, such as fit riv-nuts for the rear wings,
fit the scuttle, and so on.
I worked on my own apart from the rear axle fitting, where
I called upon Mandy to give me hand due to the weight. I
was very fortunate in that the weather was perfect, sunny
and warm, unheard of for an Easter weekend and no doubt
had my car been in one piece we'd have had storms for four
days solid. Many thanks to Steve
for the loan of his engine hoist and also his riv-nut gun.
I am always surprised just how quickly the main parts of
the car go together, but it's the little jobs that take
all the time. The car was on it's wheels and the engine
was in before the end of the first day, but it still took
3 more days to do all the little jobs, where you are more
careful of drilling holes, etc.
Needless to say the car sailed though it's MOT at our favorite
test center (West End Services near Windsor) and Mark couldn't
stop just looking at the colour - so I'll take that as mission
accomplished.
